Marc Marquez's Buriram Blunder: A Concentration Crisis?
In a surprising turn of events, reigning MotoGP champion Marc Marquez has attributed his recent crashes during the Buriram pre-season test to a simple yet critical factor: lack of concentration. But here's where it gets controversial - is it really as straightforward as it seems?
Marquez, riding for the factory Ducati team, was in the midst of a race simulation on Sunday when he fell at Turn 3. This marked his third crash during the Buriram test, and it's got everyone talking. After a quick check-up at the medical center, he emerged unscathed but decided to end his testing early.
The 33-year-old champion has been battling a stomach bug throughout the weekend, which he believes played a role in his Sunday afternoon fall. "My body just didn't recover well," he explained.
"The plan was to go the distance and finish strong," Marquez told the media. "But I crashed during the long run, so I had to finish earlier than expected."
Despite the setbacks, Marquez remains optimistic. "The testing session wasn't bad. I still feel I have room to improve physically. We did a lot of laps yesterday and this morning, but maybe I was just too tired to push through the long run this afternoon. To be honest, the crash was a result of a lack of concentration, especially considering my stomach issues yesterday."
And this is the part most people miss - Marquez believes all three of his weekend crashes were due to a lack of focus. "When you're not fully concentrated, you push the limits, but I have the instinct to be fast. When I'm fully focused, I can control that speed. Otherwise, it's uncontrollable."
Despite the crashes, Marquez's long-running pace looked promising before his Sunday mishap. Overall, Ducati's GP26 has shown significant improvements compared to last year, and Marquez seems confident about his choice of bike for the upcoming campaign.
"I'm 100% convinced and clear about my needs and how we'll start the season," he said. "Today, I was happy with my ride and finished the pre-season on a positive note."
