Founded in 2012 as a brewpub in the picturesque Margaret River region, Cheeky Monkey has since expanded its empire with the Caves Road Brewpub, Vasse Brewery & Taphouse, and the transformed Rockingham Taphouse (formerly Sound Brewing Co). Now, its first city venture promises to be a beer lover’s paradise, offering 24 taps of their most celebrated beers and a menu that blends pub classics with global flavors. Imagine escaping the corporate grind in an expanded beer garden, sipping on a cold one while savoring elevated comfort food—sounds like a dream, right?
Managing Director Brent Burton couldn’t be more thrilled. “Partnering with Brookfield Properties and joining the prestigious Brookfield Place is a monumental step for us,” he said. “We’re eager to unveil a signature venue that captures the essence of Cheeky Monkey in the heart of Perth.”
But here’s the controversial bit: Can a brewery known for its relaxed South West charm truly thrive in the fast-paced CBD? Director of Operations Brendan Day thinks so. “We’re reimagining the space to focus on top-notch hospitality without the pretension,” he explained. “Our goal is to bring the South West’s laid-back spirit to St Georges Terrace—great beer, delicious food, and a warm, inviting atmosphere.”
Cheeky Monkey isn’t the only WA brewery making waves in the city. Fremantle’s Little Creatures is set to open at Elizabeth Quay in November 2025, proving that Perth’s craft beer scene is booming. Meanwhile, Brookfield Place is buzzing with new additions, including Hub Australia’s 10,000sqm premium workspace in Tower One. However, not all changes are cause for celebration. The precinct bid a bittersweet farewell to Bar Lafayette in December after 13 years, though its sister bar, W Churchill, remains a staple.
